Capturing das produkt...

category: general [glöplog]

I am trying to capture the product from farbrausch in AVI form using the kkapture.

Every compression codec I tried has basically failed.
My goal is to capture it under 500MB in just one video.
Does anyone know any good codec that will work with the above limitation?

-Thank You in advance.

Tried this guide yet?
i should probably put this up on the kkapture homepage: i really can't recommend using kkapture to create videos in one go. to get decent quality, you really want to use a modern video codec with two-pass encoding. but kkapturing a demo twice is prety retarded in terms of workflow, especially since you don't get any preview of the compressed video as you're going. also, you can't directly kkapture to compressed audio. there's multiple reasons for that - but the main thing is that you need to specify the exact audio format when opening the video file for writing, and at that point kkapture usually doesn't know which audio format the demo uses yet. also, a lot of demos start with a loading screen with no audio - kkapture will generate dummy audio for that as soon as actual audio signals appear, but the resulting AVI files aren't well-interleaved at all as a result.

if you want to do a quality demo capture, first kkapture with a lossless codec (i recommend lagarith or huffyuv), then take the resulting video file(s) and encode them to your target format with a tool meant for the job (i prefer virtualdub). virtualdub can also seamlessly join up the multiple AVI segments that kkapture generates.

recording the demo just once and then using the video to create your final output works a lot better with things like two-pass encoding, it allows you to use a different audio format than uncompressed PCM, and it has a much better turnaround time if you want to tweak compression settings a bit (you usually have to).

hexx0r!
Well yes, kkapture looks clearly like it has been done to prepare the work for virtualdub. You can compress using whatever codec you prefer (my personal choice is xvid) afterward. And well yes, it is good that way. Thank you ryg for this great piece of software that makes everyday life easier. :-)

After following ryg's instructions the video outcome was quite perfect and I'll share it with the rest of the Scene when the file completes uploading.
Thank you, ryg! Perfect advice.
