category: general [glöplog]
1. don't put pork into your demos
2. put naked woman in your demos (with tatoo on tits)

- Consider that what you're releasing is what people are voting on, and what determines your end placing in the results. I would say if your product is not 80% finished then it is better saved for another occasion.

Ehm...can i quote you on that :x

i've done that for the last 6 years and i can assure you that it works!
quoting... or not releasing?
"bit of both"

This seems like a good thread to get something off my chest...probably isnt but here goes.

I've been "part" of scene over two years now(aware and avid fanboy four years before that), been to Solskogen twice, KG once and Breakpoint twice.
And its been for me one of the most memorable and important moments of my life.

There isn't one of you i don't like.

But lets back to the quoted "part" part.

I love the concept of the demo scene, the mix of technical challenge, creativity and ingenuity, since i was eleven i always wanted to break into programming so i could make games, but now i think want to succeed in the craft so i can impress you lot ;)

But despite this, all I've done is danced to RobIsJarig and gotten really drunk, which is part of the culture an important and attractive part at that.
As Truck once wrote "the scene is 90%" social, and Nerve also assured me of this.

But its what you have in common that makes the social event so meaningful, and in that regard i havent done anything meaningful.

At Solskogen 09 i was, ashamed and embarrassed, by daring to come without an entry despite lofty promises.
Big part of the reason why i feel so embarrassed is that i should have come much farther then this, i had three years of education behind me, now its up to four years and all i have to show for myself this week is an extremely generic vertex shader. Its my own personal vice and lack of prudency that is the cause of this, handicap or no it is of my own doing.

So that takes care of question nr 1 :)

My emo rant here is more about my own personal conduct and standards, lacking they may be.

And even though I've acted more like a groupie and been a bumbling idiot i want you to know the scene isnt just a gimmick for me, just to go partying.

Although my arguments for alcohol serving at the gathering certainly didn't help my image.

good lord I'm gonna regret posting this.....

Deus: are you aiming for a really kickass demo? That might be the problem, it takes tons of time + effort and serious skills to get a demo like that done, plus there's the problem of the bastards that do make these demos - they keep moving the bar when we think we're getting there.

Try giving yourself a few days to make something quick and fun, see what happens?

Ye-Ti: D'OH! :)

Deus: are you working *with* someone on a production? It strikes me as quite hard to make anything if you're on your own.

ZOMG so much post make shock to Swedish brain...

Okay. Racism, porn, tits with tattoos on them. Phew, I'll see what I can come up with. ;)

And remixes are okay now which will save me a ton of coding... and I can cut up some released song and use that. OK, I'll release in a few hours.

Just kidding. :D Nice to see this thread resuscitated, anyway. (And now I've killed it by replying... at least that's what usually happens...)

(one more) Another piece of advice: Include the lyrics "AMIGAAAAH! AMIGAAAAAH!". Sceners love karaoke.
